It has an important place in Malian culture. Men weave the cloth and women dye it. Each piece of mud cloth has a story to tell. The symbols, and the way in which they are arranged, as well as the colour and shape of the mudcloth reveal a variety of different secrets. Social status, a person’s character or occupation, are all things which a piece of mudcloth can represent.
